In\u00a0modern German,\u00a0Baden\u00a0is a\u00a0noun\u00a0meaning “bathing”\u00a0but\u00a0Baden, the original name of the town, derives from an earlier\u00a0plural form\u00a0of\u00a0Bad\u00a0(“bath”). (Modern German uses the plural form\u00a0B\u00e4der.)\u00a0As with the\u00a0English\u00a0placename\u00a0“Bath”, other Badens are at\u00a0hot springs\u00a0throughout\u00a0Central Europe. The current\u00a0doubled name arose to distinguish it\u00a0from the others, particularly\u00a0Baden near Vienna\u00a0in\u00a0Austria\u00a0and\u00a0Baden near Z\u00fcrich\u00a0in\u00a0Switzerland.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
