February ’23 Prescott, Grand Canyon, Misc

Drove to Prescott to “hang out”. Fun quaint downtown. Some interesting eateries. The topology there is interesting, it’s more “low mountainous”, just above desert plains in elevation. They get snow on a regular basis.

After Prescott, we drove the couple of hours to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, gaining elevation, seeing more snow. Got a room on the far west side of Grand Canyon Village. Drove west before dark, stopped at the first four lookout pullouts to take in the stunning views.

In the morning we left for home, heading east on Desert View Drive (Hwy 64). Multiple viewing pullouts presented themselves. Some were quick pullouts, some were quite a bit off the road. Many presented with trecherous, icy footing which made it real “interesting” to approach a 1000′ drop-off.

Miscellaneous pictures to follow:
– Barrio Brewing, near downtown Tucson
– Tap and Bottle (south)’s stunning inventory of semi-rare tequilas
– Some of the tequila, and then later, bourbons, on display at neighbor Mike White’s vast “library” of bottles. He lead me on a guided tour both sessions, we dove deep into history, background, and tasting notes on all these bottles. A 3rd session, attended by four of us and 6 others on Zoom, was all about making fancy cocktails with a bewildering variety of ingredients.
– Sunday morning burritos at Barista del Barrio
– Marcado San Augustin Annex
– Watson drip system rebuild

Door County, Peninsula Park camping

Pictures from a five day campout in Peninsula State Campground. Until the last night we were near the water in South Nicolet Bay campground, in a non-electric site.  We did have to move to the Welker campground on our last night to extend the trip.  Another non-electric site.

Pics include
hike South Bay
drive to Door Bluff Headlands County Park
Beaching it at Egg Harbor
Eagle Tower, new and improved, with the ramp to the top

Minnesota Roll – Jun 2022

Threw the two gravel bikes into the back of the Prius, steamed to Minneapolis and the High School graduation of Eileen’s second cousin Abby (daughter of Micheal Pocrnic), in Shakopee MN.

Next stop, Northfield to visit the Mom, hang out in the (new to us) Loon Liquor Company distillery.

Third stop – Joe and Jean’s, in Wayzata.  Rode the nearest bike path west, which ran to the south of Brown’s Bay (Lower Lake), thru Excelsior, and on to the Lake Auburn Campground area.  25 miles or so, mostly dirt. Pics are of Jean’s backyard.
