Aspen X/C Ski with Eileen
This was one of the early “dates” with Eileen. Aspen was somewhat unspoiled and off the beaten track back then. You could still live there and not be Chris Evert. I’m not sure which road we took in. Might have been Maroon Creek. The trailhead was out of Aspen to the West, not very far, the trail ran south towards Maroon Bells. We were in a wide valley, with the ground rising up on either side but not all that high or jagged, so it was “interesting” to come across an avalanche across the trail that was 20′ high.

Rudy Reservior
Actually, this is about a tennis tournament. I drove my Toyota pickup through Glenwood Canyon (this was back in the day of a small, two lane I-70), through Glenwood Springs, and on to a tennis club in Carbondale, CO. Slept in the back of my truck in the parking lot of the club with the assistance of a better part of a six-pak. Got woken up in the morning by some overachiever warming up early, and making a lot of noise about it. Turned out this guy was my first round opponent. I was bad, but he was much much worse. I remember his name – “Stephen!!!” – because he screamed it so much. I beat him love and love. Later I played Larry Lewis, a true open player and former Head Pro at Eileen’s first job in Wickenburg. I won a few games, that’s all I’ll say.
I drove over to Rudy Res, just to take a look. Also took some pictures of the raging Colorado River. The one tennis picture is of Phyllis, a big gal and bigger hitter who lived in Glenwood Springs and regularly beat Eileen whenever they met.
